Divorce Counseling

Divorce Counseling
Everyone going through the process of divorce needs help getting through it. Whether the agreement is ultimately reached with fairness or through aggression, divorce counseling provides support as well as guidance. For most, divorce feels like a “little death.” It’s the end of a dream, and the disappointment can be overwhelming. Like couples therapy, some couples make an appointment, in this case, to determine the best way to tell the children. Most divorce counseling, however, is done in individual therapy.

Divorce Counseling For Mediation

Mediation is my preferred way for couples to become divorced. It is less expensive by far, and it is also more civilized. In mediation, in CT, the goal is fairness. In a traditional family law divorce, the goal is to get the most. Though I am not a lawyer, it has been my experience that in the state of Connecticut, marital assets and marital debt are divided in half. Alimony and child support is can fall somewhere between 25% and 40% if one spouse has not worked. Alimony in Connecticut tends to be paid for half as many years as the duration of the marriage. Divorce counseling in CT can help a person stay fair by reducing fear and anxiety. That said, if you’re really not 100% sure about getting divorced, consider couples therapy first.

Divorce Counseling For Acrimonious Cases

While divorce counseling during the process of mediation or collaboration tends to be sad and sorrowful, a divorce that is acrimonious tends to cause anger and hurt. Rarely do I see a couple together, for divorce counseling, who are in the process of getting divorced using separate attorneys. It’s too late for couples therapy. At that stage, couples are only talking about visitation schedules and their attorneys are doing the talking for them. But if you are a person going through an acrimonious divorce, you need support. You need to know that someone is on your side. Consider individual counseling with me at Advocacy Circle in Westport CT.

Divorce Counseling To Find Your Future

Often spouses who have not worked for some time benefit, in addition to support, from taking career indicators like the Myers Briggs and the Strong Interest Inventory. I am licensed to offer both and they can direct and excite you for a new career in CT.
